Climate: World Will Not Be the Same

Climate change caused many irreversible effects during the century. However, not all the people think of these negative consequences. We want to tell you about 7 strange facts that happened to our planet last time. They all are results of climate change.

How climate change affects the planet?

  1. It snows in the Sahara Desert. That is a bad sign because it means that weather conditions have extremely changed.
  2. Sharks freeze to death. 2017 had record low temperatures. Thus, the USA experienced strong frost. The weather was so cold that sharks died because of the cold shock.
  3. Two-thirds of the Great Barrier Reef are destroyed. Great Barrier Reef is the largest alive object in the world. Nowadays it is in danger of disappearing because of the water temperature rise. The coral bleaching events and zero recoveries have extremely devastated the Great Barrier Reef in recent years.
  4. Islands are disappearing. Recent studies showed us that rising water level in the World ocean led to the disappearing of eight large islands in the Pacific Ocean. Besides, many other islands could disappear in the nearest future. For example, Maldives – people could there loose not only their homes but also their native land. Last year the President of Maldives declared about buying the land in India for the island inhabitants.
  5. The driest place in the world blossoms. In Atacama Desert flowers appeared. The main reason for it was the temperature change in the equatorial part of the Pacific Ocean. It led to the strong precipitations in the driest desert on Earth.
  6. Roads melt. The south-eastern part of Australia literally melted. Extremely high temperatures did not fall for a long time. It led to the asphalt felt sticky on the roads.
  7. The radioactivity of the Arctic Ocean increased. Concentrations of radioactive radium-228 in the Arctic Ocean increased between 2007 and 2015. The radiation involved is far too low to be threatening in itself but could act as a marker of deeply worrying trends. It led to the changes in the Arctic ecosystem.

As you can see, effects that scientists had predicted in the past would result from global climate change are now occurring: loss of sea ice, accelerated sea level rise and longer, more intense heat waves. Scientists have high confidence that global temperatures will continue to rise for decades to come, largely due to greenhouse gases produced by human activities. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the extent of climate change effects on individual regions will vary over time and with the ability of different societal and environmental systems to mitigate or adapt to change.
